About Brookvale
Brookvale is situated 16 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district, in the Northern Beaches region.
The area was first developed in 1836 when 64 hectares of farmland was granted to William Frederick Parker. He named the area after the creek that ran through it. The history of Brookvale is diverse and interesting. From pioneer farmers and tradesmen in the 1800s to migrant market gardens following World War II, Brookvale has progressed to a place of industry and manufacturing. The area is now an important employment precinct, with a proud history in rugby league; Brookvale Oval being the spiritual home of the mighty Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.
The popular Brookvale Heritage Walk takes in the Brookvale Oval and Brookvale Park, as well as many heritage listed buildings, including the old Brookvale Brickworks, and Brookvale Public School. Planted in the 1920s by local school students as part of Arbour Day celebrations, the mature Brush Box and Camphor Laurel trees along Pine Avenue, Federal Parade and Alfred Road in Brookvale have recently been heritage listed.
